MMA Women In Wireless Committee Teams with The Wireless Foundation
To Support Wireless AMBER Alerts™ Program

Initiative Supports Use of Wireless For Free Public Service AMBER Alerts

LAS VEGAS, CTIA WIRELESS 2008 – April 1, 2008 — According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the first three hours after abduction are the most critical in recovery efforts. By signing up for Wireless AMBER Alerts, consumers can be made aware of abductions in their area regardless of where they are through their mobile devices. Today, the Mobile Marketing Association’s )MMA) Women In Wireless Committee  )www.mmaglobal.com) announced its support of the Wireless AMBER Alerts program developed in conjunction with The Wireless Foundation, a charitable organization formed by the member companies of CTIA—The Wireless Association® that oversees philanthropic programs utilizing wireless technologies to help keep American communities safe.

This initiative for the MMA is overseen by the MMA’s Women in Wireless committee, which was established to provide a forum for female industry leaders in the mobile media community and to increase the industry awareness around the success of female executives in mobility.

“The MMA Women In Wireless Committee felt we could help promote this very important program through the MMA and our membership. By supporting the Wireless AMBER Alerts program we are able to help educate on the value of mobile for these types of initiatives, help to drive participants in the AMBER Alerts program as well as give back to the community,” said Laura Marriott, president of the MMA. “We commend The Wireless Foundation’s philanthropic efforts and are pleased to be a supporting organization.”

“The Wireless AMBER Alert program is designed to maximize the power of mobility and provide the community with real-time alerts of child abduction regardless of their whereabouts,” said David Diggs, Vice President and Executive Director of The Wireless Foundation. “Having the additional support from the MMA will only further our cause and strengthen public awareness of the program and ability to reach the community on a larger scale.”
The Wireless Foundation launched the Wireless AMBER Alerts initiative in 2005, working with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and the United States Department of Justice to send AMBER Alert text messages to consumer's wireless devices with information about an abducted child in their community. Since then, The Ad Council has developed and launched a nationwide PSA campaign to help make consumers aware of this valuable public service.
