Nokia was also instrumental in the launch of dotMobi and is constantly looking for novel ways to utilize the .mobi domain.

Issue and Solution

Like any large company, Nokia is always investigating new ways to maximize customer service while minimizing costs.

Nokia decided to help its customers with a "store finder" tool, which would allow for business savings by decreasing expensive help desk calls to Nokia. The tool would also give end users needed location information in a way that makes it immediately actionable without having to write it down or waste paper printing it out.

Plus, Nokia could test its new ad insertion tool and potentially generate additional income.

Nokia chose to make the tool available from nokia.mobi and to provide the following functionality:

·          Click to call a shop

·          Save the shop to the phonebook

·          Download maps

Results

Nokia tested the site in the UK in the first quarter of 2007. The results were strong.

390,000 people visited the site in 1Q07 with 40% of those visitors making a query, and 15% further accessing shop details and maps.

The Nokia Store Finder has proven to be such a success that it will soon be extended to cover the majority of Nokia phones and be expanded for global availability.
