James Smyllie is Vice President, Media Planning, APAC at Essence, a global data and measurement-driven media agency which is part of GroupM. In his role, he heads up the agency’s integrated media planning offering.
With 18 years of media industry experience in London, Hong Kong and Singapore, James comes with a proven track record in developing award-winning strategic media campaigns. He also brings strong expertise in the areas of innovation, change management and client leadership across sectors including technology, finance, luxury, travel and automotive.
Prior to Essence, James held roles such as International Client President and Head of Communications Planning at Carat, leading its Microsoft, Standard Chartered Bank and General Motors businesses.
A graduate in Laws from University College London, James is a huge fan of podcasts, hikes and his baby daughter.
