Mr Amit Bapna is currently the Editor-at-large (APAC) at the global publication The Drum, since 2020, where his role involves tracking and writing about consumer trends in marketing, branding, retail, entertainment and advertising for the Asian markets.
The Drum is the biggest marketing content website in Europe with an increasing footprint in the US and APAC markets. The brand is known for its signature editorial style and differentiated content and has been increasing its fanbase in India and the region.
Earlier, he was part of the editorial team at the leading business newspaper The Economic Times - Brand Equity for over 9 years, where he wrote extensively on the world of brands and marketing.
He is a content writer specialising in the business of brands, marketing and communication, having worked in the space for more than 25 years. He has worked in various industries and roles over the years including stints with various stakeholders of the content ecosystem: Agency side (with the advertising agency Ogilvy), Client side (HDFC Bank) & Publisher side (The Times Group) among others.
Amit is a Science graduate from St Stephen’s College, Delhi and holds an MBA in Marketing from Jaipur.
Along with writing prolifically about global marketing trends and consumer insights at The Drum, Amit has been keenly associated with the education world in teaching, non-teaching and mentoring roles.
He has been associated with IIM Udaipur's Consumer Culture Lab, NMIMS University’s Atal Incubation Centre, Symbiosis University and FLAME University – Pune, Chitkara University – Chandigarh, among others.
He is also on the Board of Studies at Jagran University's School of Advertising and Public Relations, Bhopal as well as part of the advisory board of the Marketing Area of the Goa Institute of Management. He is also an adjunct visiting faculty at Manipal University, Jaipur campus.
He also takes workshops and training sessions around building skillsets for storytelling, for various stakeholders.
His is an interesting profile of someone who has travelled to many destinations within the marketing domain and remained a storyteller – it started with studying marketing at the B-school, followed by working as a marketer, writing about marketing and now also teaching marketing.
He belongs to Jaipur and is currently based in Mumbai, India but does time between various cities across the globe.
