New York, NY (July 31, 2012) — Today, the MMA (Mobile Marketing Association) announced that JWT Executive Creative Director Eric Weisberg, who led the team that developed the Johnson & Johnson BAND-AID® Magic Vision augmented reality application that won a Gold Lion at the 2012 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, will serve as first ever Jury Chair for ‘The Smarties™’ Awards 2012- the only global awards program dedicated exclusively to mobile marketing. The MMA added the Smarties jury chair role to reflect the broadened scope of the awards for 2012, which includes several new categories. Weisberg will lead an all-star judging panel that includes mobile execs from Adidas, Coca-Cola, and General Mills.
“The winners of the Smarties reflect the mobile marketing industry’s creative and strategic excellence in meeting core marketing objectives, and set a global standard for mobile marketing,” said Sheryl Daija, Chief Strategic Advisor and GM Global Events, MMA. “Eric’s creative wisdom and eye for talent will be instrumental as the jury debates the merits of each submission and selects the campaigns that best represent outstanding achievement of mobile around the globe.”
“I am honored to be selected as the first Jury Chair for the MMA Smarties Awards, and am most excited to get to know my fellow jurors,” said Weisberg. “Mobile is the talk of every creative team across agencies and brands, and it is important to acknowledge the mobile innovators whose campaigns are pushing creative boundaries around the world.”
At JWT New York, Weisberg leads a nearly 50-person strong, multi-disciplinary team that includes digital, integrated and CRM creative. The group’s focus is on fast moving consumer goods brands and healthcare. Weisberg has been recognized for his award-winning print, broadcast and digital campaigns, but his best work is generally an integrated blend of ideas, technology and media that does not fit neatly into an industry buzzword.
The Smarties winners will be announced and celebrated at the MMA Smarties Global Awards Gala, which will cap off the inaugural two-day Mobile Marketing Conference and Expo in New York City during Advertising Week. Befitting the status of these coveted awards, the 2012 Smarties will be held at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Wednesday, October 3, and will honor the best-of-the-best in Mobile Marketing.
