Michael Smith is the Chief Commercial Officer, Group Digital Life at SingTel and is responsible for the go to market of the SingTel Groups new Digital Life activities. Encompassing traditional sales and marketing across the regional group of SingTel companies, the role also encompasses the monetisation platforms of Big Data, Design and Digital Advertising.
Prior to becoming Chief Commercial Officer, Group Digital Life at SingTel, Michael played a vital role in Optus' Consumer division as Managing Director, Marketing at Optus (2012). In that role he was responsible for all brand and communications as well as product marketing and customer segmentation for the retail and small business markets. Michael and his team looked after the development, implementation and go to market for Optus products and services. He was also the brand's chief custodian. This role followed his time as Managing Director of Optus Consumer (2009 - 2012) were he led the provision of value and quality products and services to Australian consumers including mobile voice and data services, long distance and local telephony, high-speed internet access and digital television.
In his thirteen years at Optus, Michael had undertaken a number of sales and marketing roles in the business. Starting in the consumer mobility team, Michael's roles have also included working in the establishment of the small business operation and a stint as leader of the mobility business in the corporate and government segment.
Prior to joining Optus, Michael spent twelve years with Commonwealth Bank of Australia, in a variety of senior roles in their retail and financial services divisions including segment management, product management, marketing and business re-engineering.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Business Degree (Marketing and Employee Relations) from the University of Technology, Sydney.
