Netbiscuits creates mobile online marketplace ricardo.ch

Swiss market leader for online sales and purchasing now available with all essential functions on all mobile end devices

Kaiserslautern, February 7, 2011 – Netbiscuits, the world's leading cloud software platform for the development, publishing and monetization of mobile sites and apps, today announces the creation of the mobile internet portal ricardo.ch. With about 500,000 current offers, a gross merchandise volume of about 465 million Euro, and over 1.7 million members, ricardo.ch AG is the largest Swiss online marketplace.

The new mobile portal provides all the essential functions for selling and buying on ricardo.ch. The new mobile website is especially useful for auctions that are ending soon: In the past bidders had to stay at home for the end of an auction, but now they can bid from any web-enabled mobile phone—anywhere, anytime. Of course, this also applies for Buy Now offers at a fixed price.

Even before launching the mobile online marketplace, ricardo.ch recorded 20.5 million visits a month of which about 530,000 were made from mobile phones. Users visited an average of six pages, staying on ricardo.ch for a total of five minutes. Apple customers accounted for 76.6% of mobile traffic, including iPhone, iPod and iPad users. The remaining visitors used a number of other mobile end devices.

Heiner Kroke, CEO of ricardo.ch, sees this as reflecting two trends: "On one hand, we have a massive increase in access via smartphones and mobile devices. On the other, we're seeing more and more devices by various manufacturers being used to access ricardo.ch via mobile. With Netbiscuits, we can offer our customers a mobile website that makes buying and selling via a mobile end device as convenient and easy as possible."

Michael Neidhöfer, CEO of Netbiscuits, adds: "Growth is particularly rapid, especially in the areas of retail and e-commerce. Looking at the data that our platform generates serving mobile websites all over the world, I can only agree with what Mr. Kroke has said. Currently over 2,900 different mobile devices per month access websites created and delivered using Netbiscuits. The total number of visits per month is currently at about 4.4 billion. From the beginning of 2008 to the end of 2010, we witnessed a growth rate of around 800 percent."
