The Council of Better Business Bureaus (BBB) helps North American consumers and businesses know who's on the up-and-up. The non-profit organization comprises independent BBBs and branches in about 110 locations throughout North America, as well as some 200 national companies that have shown a commitment to business ethics. More than 300,000 companies that have demonstrated a similar commitment belong to local BBBs. The companies can promote their adherence to BBB standards; in return, they are subject to "reliability reports" that consist of any complaints clients or partners have had about them. BBBs work to resolve disputes between consumers and businesses and review companies' advertising.
