Mobile Marketing Association News

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the March 2007 edition of the MMA’s Mobile Marketing Messenger.

Like all in the industry, it has been a busy month for the MMA.  New developments in mobile advertising, mobile video and television, and other content services, have created a large opportunity for MMA members as our industry continues to grow.  Global has also been a large focus for us in early 2007 with new chapters launched in APAC and EMEA.  Next month we will feature additional information from each of these chapter launches.

Spring is one of our busiest trade show seasons – and as such, we would like to highlight two upcoming MMA events:

  • 2007 Mobile Marketing Forum, to be held June 6 & 7 in New York City.  Registration is already open and just like 2006, this program is slated to be a sold out event.  Get on board today by visiting www.mobilemarketingforum.com.
  • For the 2nd year in a row, the MMA is teaming up with Billboard to host the MMA Mobile Entertainment Live Bash, Presented by AOL.  Join the MMA at CTIA on Monday, March 26th from 6:30pm-9:00pm at The Groove at Universal City Walk, for this must attend event.  The Bash is open to all attendees of Mobile Entertainment Live event as well as all MMA Members.  For more information on this event, please visit the Events Calendar on www.mmaglobal.com.  RSVP is not required.

See you soon!

Regards,

Mobile Marketing Association

Mobile Marketing Association Adds 23 Members

Each month the Committee News column will profile the efforts of up to four (4) of the MMA committee initiatives.  For more detailed information on committee initiatives, please visit the committee pages or the MMA members only site.

Mobile Marketing Strategies & Best Practices
The Mobile Marketing Strategies & Best Practices committee, chaired by Maria Mandel, Partner, Director of Digital Information, OgilvyInteractive and Webster Lewin, Director of Mobile Marketing, R/GA, will release its Mobile Marketing 102 white paper the week after CTIA.  The paper is geared toward companies ready to launch mobile marketing campaigns and details the mechanics of how to execute mobile initiatives.  The white paper will be available on the MMA website soon!  Focus areas include downloadable content, messaging, streaming content, and mobile web.

New NA Committee – Industry Logo Task Force
The MMA is launching the Industry Logo Task Force in the North American chapter.  The task force will focus on creating a mobile content industry logo as a consumer-facing symbol to protect the consumer’s interests and promote a healthy industry. The symbol/logo will indicate to the consumer at-a-glance that an advertisement is for a mobile campaign.  The task force will be chaired by John Lauer, Executive Vice President, OpenMarket.  If you are interested in participating, please contact Stacey Sayer at stacey.sayer@mmaglobal.com.

EMEA Committees
The MMA will be launching committees in EMEA over the next few weeks.  The MMA EMEA Mobile Advertising Committee launched at 3GSM in February – and already has participation from over 30 member companies across the value chain.  Additional committees and announcements will follow shortly.  Committees to be launched include Consumer Best Practices, Privacy and Preference, Mobile Couponing, Mobile Video and Television.  If you are interested in participating, please contact mma@mmaglobal.com  The next newsletter will feature more details on the new MMA EMEA Committee initiatives.

APAC Committees
The MMA has also launched four new committees in the APAC region.  These include Consumer Best Practices, Mobile Advertising and Code of Conduct.  If you are interested in participating in these emerging initiatives, please contact mma@mmaglobal.com

Hold The Phone?! will feature ‘guest column’ articles written by MMA members every second month. Please direct your comments and suggestions to editor@mmaglobal.com

Finding Mobile Success
By Dan Flanegan, President, Soapbox Mobile
As someone who has been in the mobile marketing space for the past four years and has launched and managed multiple campaigns I am continuously asked "What do you consider a successful campaign?".  In most cases the individual or company posing the question is looking for some hard number, a response rate, a number of sent messages or registered users.  These can all be important metrics, however, success presents itself in the least expected and most interesting of ways.
