Mobile Marketing Association News

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the June 2007 edition of the MMA’s Mobile Marketing Messenger.

On July 15, it will be two years since I joined the MMA – having previously served on the MMA Board of Directors – and what an incredible voyage it has been thus far! Over a 900% growth rate in new membership and association revenues; new regional chapters in Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC); Mobile Marketing Forum events which have grown significantly with our most recent hitting almost 700 attendees; and, a membership base which now has participation from over 2700 active member individuals. The time has flown by and I would like to thank a few people for their commitment to growing our industry and association – and ultimately helping us be successful:

  • Jim Manis, 1024 Wireless Services & MMA Chairman 2003-2005
  • Louis Gump, The Weather Channel Interactive & MMA Chairman 2006
  • Cyriac Roeding, CBS Corp & MMA Global & NA Chairman 2007
  • Richard Saggers, Vodafone Group Services & MMA EMEA Chairman 2007
  • Sandy Agarwal, Enpocket & MMA APAC Chairman 2007
  • MMA Board of Directors & Executive Committee members – 2005, 2006 & 2007
  • MMA Committee leadership & participants
  • MMA sponsors and contributors
  • MMA Staff & Contractors – with a special thanks to MMA staff members Stacey Sayer, Jeremy Zimmerman and Denise Ocampo

And a very special thanks to my good friends, Jim & Louis, for making that first trip out to Colorado to hire me. What a journey it has been!

The Mobile Marketing Association is made strong though the commitment of our membership. The months and years ahead will continue to see the MMA reinforcing our leadership through education and evangelization of the mobile channel as well as increased focused on expanding the guidelines and best practices for our industry. Our overall goal is to ensure the continued development of a healthy and vibrant mobile marketing industry inclusive of mobile advertising and content. Thank you all for your contributions, I look forward to building our combined successes over another two years!

The MMA Messenger will be taking a month off in July 2007 – so enjoy the summer month and we will be back on-line in August. See you soon.

Regards,

Laura Marriott
President
Mobile Marketing Association

The Four Pillars of Successful Mobile Marketing
Chapter excerpt from Mobile Persuasion: Perspectives on the Future of Influence
Published by Stanford University's Mobile Persuasion Lab, April 2007
by Eric Holmen, President, SmartReply, Inc.
Mobile marketing has potential to make the mobile phone experience miserable. Because mobile communications are highly personal, they differ from other advertising-enriched technologies, including radio, TV and web. Mobile advertisers have little understanding of the recipient’s environment when messages are delivered. With TV or Internet advertising, marketers can be fairly certain of conditions and engagement with content. That is not the case with mobile ads, though done well, mobile marketing offers great value to advertisers and recipients.
