Mobile Technology Company Movitas Raises $3 Million for Travel Industry Focus

PHILADELPHIA, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- In a new round of financing from a group of private investors, Movitas raised $3 million based on the company's success with hotels, resorts, conferences and travel destinations. Movitas will use the investment to deepen the capabilities of its mobile platform to generate new sources of revenue for the travel, tourism and meetings industries.

The new funding comes a little more than six months after a strategic acquisition in December 2009. In the interim, Movitas has acquired a significant number of new clients from the lodging industry, including Choice Hotels International, Ocean Properties and Kohler Resorts; the destinations industry, including Poconos CVB and Atlantic City CVB; the meetings industry, including Travelcom, DMAI and HSMAI; and resorts and destinations operators in the US, Mexico and Caribbean through relationships with MMG Worldwide, Amstar DMC, and AMResorts.

Today, the company's platform provides hospitality-focused mobile solutions; an integrated suite of publishing, marketing, messaging and advertising applications for delivering new revenue sources. The platform focuses on the revenue opportunities of real-time communication between travel businesses and consumers before, during, and after their stay.

With this investment the company plans to launch unique end-user features into the market to increase the revenue potential of its customers' mobile deployments in the multi-billion dollar online travel marketing space. The features will enable Movitas customers to earn additional revenue from on-site marketing, advertising, cross-selling and upgrading.

"Every hospitality business is aware that modern mobile phones represent a new paradigm in marketing and in customer relationship management," said Keith Forshew, CEO of the Philadelphia-area company. "We have proven that on-site, in-destination mobile solutions deliver a new set of revenue generation capabilities, in addition to enhancing access to existing revenue streams."

While there are other mobile technology companies in the hospitality space, most commonly ones that seek to replace existing booking channels or to enhance guest services with a native iPhone app, Movitas offers, according to Forshew, "the first cross-device, software-as-a-service mobile platform that is focused on generating new revenue for its customers." The platform continues to develop in this direction with the recent introduction of "enhanced mobile advertising, commerce and cross-selling functions, fueled by integrated end-user applications that range from fun to indispensable for guests."
